Learn to draft patterns for bodysuits & swimsuits, and experiment with your own designs!
In this course, you'll lean how to draft the basic pattern for a swimsuit or bodysuit, complete with sleeves. We'll go through the most common fit issues for this kind of garments, and explore different variations while creating a full project together.
This course is for you if:
You already know your way around Clo3D and want to apply your creativity to new and more complex garments.
You know the basics of pattern making, but you'd like to explore more advanced techniques for pattern drafting and fitting.
You want to create well-fitting bodysuit & swimsuit patterns in Clo3D, so you can translate your ideas into physical garments.
From the first steps to the final touches
This is comprehensive but laser-focused course where you'll learn all the steps for creating swimsuit & bodysuit patterns that will allow you to experiment with your own design ideas.
We'll draft the base pattern from scratch, using your own custom measurements. We'll learn how fit the bodysuit, add sleeves and a bust dart, to achieve a well-fitting pattern that can be the base of future projects.
We'll transform our base pattern into a new swimsuit style, by creating seams, rotating darts and adding hardware and graphics. You'll be able to follow along and learn the same workflow I use when approaching complex projects.
COURSE CONTENTS
Ideally, you should already have some experience in Clo3D and know the basics of pattern drafting. This is not a difficult course by any means, but it's not for complete beginners either! If you'd like to learn the basics of Clo3D while creating lingerie patterns, I can recommend you to take my other course Lingerie Pattern Drafting in Clo3D. It will teach you drafting and fitting skills that will come in handy when working on this course.
Absolutely! In fact, I find that Clo3D can benefit home sewists in so many ways, as it gives you the ability to test your designs within the software (without wasting any fabric!), and then you can print the patterns on your regular home printer and start sewing. I do this all the time when I make garments for myself!
Yes! That's exactly the point ;) Everything that you draft in Clo3D can be printed like any PDF pattern, so you can cut and sew a physical garment. Having the ability to fit your patterns in Clo3D will help you create physical garments that have most fit issues already corrected. That said, Clo3D is not a magical wand: the quality of your patterns (and the fit of the garments you make based on them) will depend on how you apply your own pattern making skills. 3D fitting can save us a lot of work, but it's not always 100% correct, we still need to fit our garments on a real person.
Of course! All the lessons have a comments section where you can ask questions, and I check those regularly to provide answers. I believe in supporting all my students at every step of the way, and making mistakes and asking questions are all parts of the learning process!

Hi! I’m Sofía, and I work as a freelance lingerie designer & pattern maker for brands all around the world.
A big part of what I know about making lingerie comes from being self-taught, so I know the frustration of being unable to find enough information online! I hate gate-keeping, and that's why I decided to help people passionate about fashion create their own 3D designs and improve their pattern-drafting skills.
I teach in several design schools, but I also love sharing my expertise via 1:1 lessons, tutorials and online courses like this one. I can't wait to see what you create in this course!
